Novice 4 brings home gold

May 15, 2006

Stanford's Novice Women's Four shot out of the start and never looked back at Saturday's Pacific Coast Rowing Championships in Rancho Cordova, CA.

Lead by junior Sarah Buer in stroke seat, freshman Kerry Pigott in 3, 5th year Layla Parast in 2, freshman Monica Bowe in bow, and freshman Ariel Dixon as coxswain, the Cardinal's top novices finished 11 seconds ahead of second place Loyola Marymount. 'What a perfect close for an outstanding season,' comments Assistant Coach Carrie Davis. 'In these novices lies the depth and spirit of future Stanford boats. I can hardly wait.'

Also racing on Saturday was Stanford's Open Four comprised of Araceli Ortiz (stroke), Lola Feiger (3), Jenny Pandiscio (2), Simone Vernez (1), and Nadia Shaikh (cox). Despite hard charges and good effort, the Card finish 6th.

The Novice 4 and bow pair of the Open 4 doubled up to race along with Sam Azure, Ashley Pete, and Jessica Weigel in the Novice Women's Eight on Sunday at the PAC 10 Championships.
