Women's Crew Finishes Strong at Pac-10 Championship

The Stanford Women's Crew competed on Sunday in the Pac-10 Championship with NCAA qualification on the line. The one-day event featured the women's varsity four, women's second varsity, novice, and first varsity eight.
All four boats qualified from the morning heats to the grand finals. The varisty four brought home the lone Stanford medal of the day by finishing third overall. The novice eight had equipment struggles in their final and finished sixth. The second varsity fought hard down the course after coming off the line sixth and moved ahead of USC in the second 500m. The Cardianl continued to move on the field but came just short of fourth place Washington.
The No. 16 varsity eight blasted off the line in first place. The field closed on the Cardinal who held third until around the halfway part of the race. Washington and Washington State made hard charges that the Cardinal fought hard to hold off. The Cardinal finished in the fifth position overall 4.4 seconds ahead of No. 12 UCLA.
NCAA selections are announced on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. PST.
