Bruins Selected To Compete At NCAA Championships

May 16, 2006

On Tuesday afternoon, the UCLA Women's Rowing team's varsity eight received an at-large bid to attend the 2006 Division I NCAA Championships. This is the second consecutive year that the Bruins' varsity eight has been selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. The event will be held on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. from May 26-28.

A total of 12 schools were chosen to take part in the championship as a team, while four additional schools were selected to take part exclusively in the varsity eight event. UCLA received one of the four at-large bids and will only enter a varsity eight in the competition. The selection was likely based on UCLA's 6th-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships last weekend along with a strong regular season record.

'I am very proud of the entire UCLA team this year,' said coach Amy Fuller Kearney. 'I am happy that the eight was selected to represent our program.'

The Bruins are joined by fellow Pac-10 members California, USC, Stanford and Washington in the field of 16 for the varsity eight.
