Bruin Alumnus Andre McCarter To Be Inducted Into Philadelphia's Overbrook HS Hall Of Fame

Philadelphia, Pa - Overbrook High School Alumni Association (OHSAA) will host their 6th annual Golf Classic and Banquet on Friday, May 19, 2006, at the Bala Golf Club, 2200 Belmont Avenue in Philadelphia. Proceeds will benefit the Sam Cozen Scholarship Fund which provides college scholarships to deserving Overbrook High School (OHS) College Bound Seniors.

The Golf Classic will include green fees, golf cart, lunch, prizes and the OHSAA Hall of Fame Banquet dinner. The Classic kicks off with lunch and tournament registration at 11 a.m. followed by a noon shotgun start.

In the evening, the OHSAA will induct 4 very deserving OHS alumni into the OHSAA Hall of Fame at an honorary banquet dinner. They are: Andre McCarter, outstanding OHS & UCLA basketball player and businessman; Richie Richman, three sport varsity letterman at OHS & Villanova and businessman; Zach Stalberg, former senior VP of Philadelphia Daily News; and Barry Stupine, Univ. of Penn. Veterinary School Vice Dean and civil servant. The dinner will begin at 7:15 p.m. Cocktails: 6:30 p.m.

McCarter came to UCLA following a stellar career at Philadelphia's Overbrook HS, the same school that produced UCLA and NBA great Walt Hazzard. At Overbrook, McCarter as a senior in 1971 was the Pennsylvania All-State 'Player of the Year' and led Overbrook to its second consecutive Philadelphia City Championship. He averaged 22.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 11.0 assists and was a unanimous high school All-American. During his varsity career at UCLA (1974-76), McCarter was a two-year starting point guard, who in 1975 as a junior, helped lead the Bruins to John Wooden's final NCAA Championship, the 10th in school history. As a Bruin, in appeared in 86 games, averaging 6.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

If you are not a member of the OHSAA, we urge you to help us 'help' the kids by becoming a member. Membership applications will be at the banquet. Your dues help proved financial grants to deserving graduates and teams. OHS paraphernalia such as T-Shirts, Sweatshirts and Hats will be on sale at the banquet.
