May 20, 2006
STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific first baseman Justin Baum drove in four runs as the Tigers beat the Washington baseball team, 7-2, Saturday at Klein Family Field in the second game of a three-game series.
UoP starter Joey Centanni (5-4) allowed just one unearned run on three hits over seven innings to pick up the win. Pacific improved to 27-23 with the win while the Huskies fell to 34-24.
In the bottom of the first, with a runner at first and one out, Baum, a sophomore from La Mesa, Calif., lined a two-run homer to left to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Baum, who hit four homers in two games at Husky Ballpark last year, tied the Pacific record for career homers with his 11th of the season and 28th of his career.
In the third, Baum drove in another run with a sacrifice fly. In the fourth, a Ramon Glasgow sacrifice fly made it a 4-0 Tigers lead.
In the fifth, Pacific added two more on yet another sac fly from Baum and a two-out RBI single from John Devany, increasing their advantage to 6-0.
An RBI single from Joe Oliveira in the sixth made it 7-0 before the Huskies notched their first tally in the top of the seventh when Brett Kaluza singled and eventually scored on an error.
In the ninth, Husky senior Cory Rickard hit a solo homer for the Huskies' second run.
UW freshman starter Tyler Cheney (1-6) suffered the loss for the Huskies, allowing five earned run on five hits over four and one-third innings.
