LOS ANGELES - Whitney Holum had a second-inning sacrifice fly and Ashley Herrera connected on her first career grand slam on Sunday afternoon as UCLA (46-7) advances to Super Regionals with a 7-0 win over San Diego State. The Bruins will play host to South Florida on Saturday at 3 pm and on Sunday at Noon and 3 pm (if necessary). All games from the Los Angeles Super Regional will be televised live by ESPNU.

The Bruins, batting as the visiting team, opened the scoring in the second inning when Emily Zaplatosch led off with a long single down the third base line before being replaced by pinch runner Alissa Eno. Jodie Legaspi grounded into a fielders choice, but the Aztecs were unable to get the out at second base, giving the Bruins runners on first and second with no outs. A Lisa Dodd sacrifice bunt put both runners in scoring position and a deep fly ball to centerfield by Whitney Holum plated Eno for the opening run of the game.

In the bottom half of the inning, San Diego State rallied, getting a leadoff hit from Monica Alnes on a ball that hit her foot but was not called foul by the umpires. Taryin Casillas then put a bunt down and UCLA 3B Andrea Duran tried unsuccessfully to get the out at first base, giving the Aztecs two runners on. Chrissie Markham followed with a base hit through the right side, but after Selden struck out Allisson Smith, Bree Boyer grounded into a 5-2-3 double play with the first out at the plate and the second out at first base to get the Bruins out of the inning with the score remaining 1-0 in UCLA's favor.

After UCLA got out of that bases loaded jam and sophomore pitcher Anjelica Selden took over from there. Selden retired the next nine batters she faced and allowed just two base runners during the remainder of the game. She struck out six and walked one.

The Bruins came through with a six-run sixth inning. Caitlin Benyi was hit by a pitchto open the inning and went to second on a hit-and-run single by Emily Zaplatosch. After Jodie Legaspi singled to right, her first hit of the regional that was not a home run, the bases were loaded for Lisa Dodd, who grounded into a fielders choice but Benyi was able to score on a throwing error by Aztecs third baseman Taryin Casillas. Holum then connected on her second RBI of the game with a single through the left side. That brought up Ashley Herrera, who stepped in to the right-handed batters box after hitting lefty for almost the entire Pac-10 season, and connected on her first career grand slam to make the score 7-0.

UCLA advances to Super Regionals and will face South Florida. The Bulls advanced out of the Gainesville regional with a 7-4 win over Florida Atlantic on Sunday.
