Amber Liu Named ITA Senior Player of the Year

Stanford, Calif. - The 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national award winners for NCAA Division I men's and women's tenniswere announced tonight at the NCAA Championships at Stanford University. Stanford's Amber Liu was named the ITA National Senior Player of the Year.
Liu, the 2003 and 2004 NCAA Singles Champion and 2005 NCAA Doubles Runner-Up, has helped the Cardinal to NCAA team titles the last two years and will help the Cardinal in their 20th NCAA Championship appearance tomorrow afternoon as she looks to cap her four-year career with the third NCAA team title during her run at Stanford.
Liu has amassed a 92-21 career record in singles and is 17-3 on the year this season. She is ranked No. 8 in the nation and will be the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship, which begins on Wednesday. Liu, paired with sophomore Celia Durkin, is also ranked No. 22 in doubles and will begin play in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Thursday.
