Corkery Advances to NCAA Quarterfinals With Today's Victory

Senior KC Corkery advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals after today's 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Tulsa's Arnau Bruguess, the No. 7 seed in the tournament. Corkery will play Clement Reix of Clemson in tomorrow's quartfinal match at the Taube Tennis Center.
Corkery, ranked 25th in the country, came back to beat Bruguess after losing the first set 6-4. It was the second straight day Corkery beat a seeded player. He defeated Arnaud Lecloerec of Virginia Commonwealth, seeded 9-16, in yesterday's Roun of 32.
Corkery is now 31-5 overall in 2006 and 4-0 in NCAA team and individual play this year. This is the furthest Corkery has advanced in the NCAA Singles Tournament in his career.
In other Cardinal men's tennis news, James Pade was chosen Second-Team Academic All-Pac-10 today while Corkery was an honorable mention Academic All-Pac-10 selection.
