Lindsey Nelson Digs Deep For NCAA Semifinal Spot
May 27, 2006
PALO ALTO, CALIF. - USC sophomore Lindsey Nelson refused to let a one-set deficit break her NCAA hopes, digging out a 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 victory in the NCAA Women's Singles Quarterfinals to advance to tomorrow's semifinals. Nelson switched gears and pumped out a near-flawless second set against Stanford's #34 Celia Durkin, and went all-out again in the third to lock away a trip to the semifinals against either VCU's #36 Tatsiana Uvarova or William and Mary's #19 Megan Moulton-Levy. That match is set for Sunday (May 28) at Taube Tennis Center.
As a freshman, Nelson reached the NCAA Round of 16, making this year's NCAA Semifinal trip a powerful step for the sophomore, who toppled the nation's #2 player, Audra Cohen of Miami, in the Round of 16. With Nelson's 2006 quarterfinal victory over Durkin, Nelson's singles record on the year improves to 24-8.
