Women's Crew Team Finishes 11th at NCAA Championship

West Windsor, NJ - The Stanford Women's Crew team finished 11th place at the 2006 NCAAChampionship held on Lake Mercer May 26-28. The Cardinal women were oneof twelve teams that were invited to compete in the team championship which includes the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four.
The Stanford first varsity went into the event ranked 15th. Thechampionship field in this event consists of the twelve first eights from the team qualifiers plus four at-large eights for a total of sixteen eights. The Cardinal qualified for the second level final by defeatingNo.9 Tennessee, No. 10 Wisconsin and No. 13 Boston University and finished 13th overall.
The Stanford second varsity raced in the second level final and defeated boats from Yale, Tennessee and Notre Dame for a 9th place overall finish.This is the best NCAA finish ever for a Stanford second varsity.
The Cardinal varsity four raced in the second level final and defeated boatsfrom Tennessee, Yale and Notre Dame also finishing 9th overall. This alsois the best NCAA finish for a Stanford varsity four.
The combined finishes for the three boats placed Stanford in a tie for 10th place with Yale. Placement in the first varsity eight event broke the tie in favor of the Bulldogs.
