Andrea Duran Named First-Team Academic All-America

May 31, 2006

Pac-10 Player of the Year Andrea Duran added another honor to her list of awards on Wednesday when she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team. Duran is the first Bruin softball player to earn first-team Academic All-America honors since Alleah Poulson in 1997.

In addition to Pac-10 Player of the Year awards, Duran has been named to the All-Pac-10 first team, NFCA Pacific Region first team, and was the only player to earn three Pac-10 Player of the Week honors in 2006. She was also the only player in the country to be honored as USA Softball Player of the Week twice, as well as earning the NFCA/Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week recognition on two occasions.

UCLA is the top seed in the Women's College World Series and opens play on Thursday night at approximately 6 pm pacific time against eighth-seeded Tennessee. The game will be televised live on ESPN2.
