Four Sun Devils Earn First Team All-Pac-10 Honors

May 31, 2006

TEMPE, Ariz. -

Eight Sun Devil baseball players have earned All-Pac-10 honors, the conference announced today. Junior outfielder Colin Curtis (Issaquah, Wash.), sophomore infielder Eric Sogard (Phoenix, Ariz.), freshman first baseman Ike Davis (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and freshman catcher Preston Paramore (Allen, Texas) all earned First Team honors for the 2006 regular season. Senior pitchers Daryl Arreola (Gilbert, Ariz.), Tony Barnette (Federal Way, Wash.), Brett Bordes (Mesa, Ariz.) and freshman first baseman Brett Wallace (Sonoma, Calif.) earned Honorable Mentions.

Curtis hit .339 for the Devils during the regular season, knocking in 51 runs and tying for the Pac-10 lead with a career-high 21 stolen bases. He is the only Sun Devil to start every game this season. Curtis was an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention a season ago.

Sogard is the team's second leading hitter, batting at a .366 clip while slugging .657. His nine homers tie him for the team lead with Davis.

Davis, who was also named the Pac-10's Freshman of the Year, has 65 RBI this season, a new ASU record for runs batted in by a freshman. He is tied for the team lead in hits (77) and home runs (9) and has also pitched in 14 games.

Paramore has been the catcher for 50 of the team's 55 games, batting .311 with 32 RBI while handling 16 different pitchers.

The Sun Devils also handed out their annual team awards at the 22nd annual baseball banquet on Tuesday night. Brett Bordes was named the 2006 On Deck Circle Most Valuable Player, becoming the first relief pitcher in school history to win the award. The honorable mention All-Pac-10 honor is the second straight for Bordes, who became the school's all-time leader in pitching appearances earlier this season.
