June 1, 2006

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Katie Burkhart's nine strikeouts were not enough against Cat Osterman and the #3 Texas Longhorns Thursday afternoon as the Sun Devils fell in a tough 2-0 loss in Game Two of the Women's College World Series at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, OK. The loss snaps ASU's nine-game winning streak to put the Sun Devils at 52-14 on the season.

After a tough pitching battle between Katie Burkhart and Cat Osterman, the Longhorns finally grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth after a lead-off double to left field from second-baseman, Chez Sievers was hit home with another double to right center by right fielder Amber Hall giving Texas the slight 1-0 lead after four.

Texas added another run in the fifth as shortstop, Desiree Williams hit her 12th home run of the season, her first in College World Series as a solo shot off the left field foul pole on a 1-0 count pushed Texas to 2-0.

ASU was only able to grab one hit off of Osterman as Cat accounted for 19 of the 21 outs of the game with 18 strikeouts and one pop-out to keep the Sun Devil offense quiet.

ASU returns to action Saturday as they take on the Oregon State Beavers at 11 a.m. at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
