Pepperdine Blanks UCLA, 6-0

Malibu, Calif. - No. 1-seed Pepperdine blew open a 2-0 lead with a four-run ninth inning, as Paul Coleman and Jason Dominguez combined for a 6-0 shutout win over No. 2-seed UCLA on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the Malibu Regional at Eddy D. Field Stadium. UCLA falls to 33-24 on the season and will play No. 4-seed Missouri in an elimination game on Sunday, June 4 at 11 a.m.
UCLA hit 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the game that was delayed an hour and 40 minutes because of a preceding 14 inning, 5-4 Missouri win over UC Irvine.
Junior LHP Dave Huff (7-4) tossed 8.1 innings allowing five runs on nine hits with one strikeout and two walks in a losing effort. Huff allowed just two runs through the first seven innings.
Pepperdine used a two-out rally in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead over UCLA. Danny Worth hit a two-out double down the left field line to score Luke Salas who led the inning off with a double to right center. Chad Tracy followed with a RBI single to center to score Worth and put the Waves up by two.
UCLA got things going in the bottom of the fourth inning but couldn't cash anything in. Decker hit a one-out double down the left field line to give the Bruins a runner in scoring position. Senior Sean Smith followed with a single to center field but Decker was thrown out at the plate by Pepperdine's Adrian Ortiz to keep UCLA scoreless.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Stewart hit a ball to the right field wall that almost went out of the park, but Pepperdine right fielder Donald Brown leaped above the wall and gloved the ball back into play which dropped for a lead-off double. UCLA would leave Stewart stranded at second with three-straight pop ups to end the inning.
Pepperdine broke the game open with a four-run ninth inning to take a 6-0 lead that would not be tested. Justin Tellam hit a RBI single to left center with one out, and Tracy would score a runner on a RBI ground out with the bases loaded. With two outs, Nick Kliebert hit a two-run double down the right field line to put Pepperdine up for good by six runs.
UCLA will face Missouri in an elimination game of the Malibu Regional on Sunday at 11 a.m.
