Softball Defeats Alabama, Advances to Face Texas

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Andrea Duran tripled on the first pitch of the game and homered in the third inning as UCLA defeated Alabama by a score of 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. UCLA advances to play Texas later tonight at approximately 6 pm PT on ESPN.
UCLA wasted no time getting on the board. Senior 3B Andrea Duran blasted the first pitch of the game just fair down the third base line, and the ball bounced around in the corner long enough for Duran to record her seventh triple of the season and second of the WCWS. Krista Colburn followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Bruins an early 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Dominique Accetturo tied the game on a two-out first-pitch home run, her fifth of the season. The Tide went on to load the bases on a walk, a hit-by-pitch and an infield single by Brittany Rogers before Jordan Praytor grounded into a fielders choice to end the inning an the threat with the score tied 1-1.
UCLA was able to extend the lead in the third inning. Duran led off the inning with a her 14th home run of the season, a shot to left center. Krista Colburn followed with a single to right center, stole second base and came around to score on a throwing error to give UCLA a 3-1 lead after two and a half innings of play.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Crimson Tide loaded the bases again with a leadoff single from Mandy Burford followed by a one-out walk to Praytor and a single to left by Staci Ramsey, but Anjelica Selden got the next two batters to end the inning and the threat and increased Alabama's left on base number for the game to seven.
The Bruins rallied for an insurance run in the sixth inning as Lisa Dodd drew a one-out walk and Whitney Holum connected on a single to give the Bruins two on with one out. Pinch-hitter Kristen Dedmon grounded into a fielders choice with the out at second base, giving the Bruins runners on the corners with two outs in the inning. Tara Henry then connected on a single to shallow left field, plating Dodd and advancing Ashley Herrera, who re-entered to run, to third base. UCLA completed the inning with a 4-1 lead
That was plenty of offense for Selden, who struck out five and allowed just one run in the game.
The Bruins advance to face Texas at approximately 6 pm Pacific Time on Saturday night in another elimination game. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
