Wood Leads Four Trojans Who Qualify For 2006 U.S. Open

June 6, 2006

USC senior Taylor Wood and former Trojans Ben Hayes, Kevin Stadler and David Oh all qualified for the 2006 U.S. Open on Monday (June 5) in sectional qualifying competition.

Wood, who finished four rounds at the 2006 NCAA Championships on June 3, was back in action at Lake Merced G.C. in Daly City, Calif., two days later, finishing second with a 139 (64-75) to earn the U.S. Open berth.

Hayes, a 2005 All-American honorable mention selection who graduated last year, earned medallist honors by finishing first at the highly competitive and professional-heavy sectional at Brookside Golf and Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, with a 131 (67-64).

Stadler, the 2002 Pac-10 Player of the Year, and Oh earned their U.S. Open berths at the Canoe Bank C.C. in Summit, N.J. Stadler tied for second with a 134 (66-68) while Oh made it with a 137 (67-70).

Wood, Taylor and Oh were all teammates on the 2002-2003 USC Trojans, a year after Stadler graduated.

Other USC golfers in action who did not qualify were junior Jordan Nasser and former Trojan Roger Tambellini.

The 2006 U.S. Open is June 15-18 at Winged Foot C.C. in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
