California-Tennessee Football Game Set for ESPN

June 8, 2006

BERKELEY - California's season-opening football game at Tennessee has been added to the ESPN television schedule, the Southeastern Conference has announced.

The Golden Bears will take on Tennessee in Knoxville on Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. Eastern). ESPN becomes the fourth network to announce plans to televise a Golden Bears football game in 2006. Games against Minnesota (TBS), Oregon (ABC), UCLA (ABC), Southern California (ABC) and Stanford (Fox) had already slated for live television.

Cal's three ABC games will all begin at 5 p.m. and will part of ABC's new prime-time lineup. Two of those games will be played in Berkeley (Oregon on Oct. 7 and UCLA on Nov. 4).

Tennessee will visit California to open the 2007 football season.

The Bears are coming off an 8-4 2005 campaign. They finished the season ranked 25th in the AP and USA Today polls.
