Waterfield, Thomas Garner CRCA National Honors
June 12, 2006
PULLMAN, Wash. - The Collegiete Rowing Coaches Association named two Cougar rowers to its All-American teams earlier this month.
Junior Sarah Waterfield, stroke Washington State's varsity eight that finished fourth at nationals, was named to the CRCA All-America First Team. She is joined on the team by senior Jody Thomas, who garnered second team honors for the second consecutive season. Both were earlier named to the CRCA West Region First Team.
Waterfield is the first Cougar to earn a spot on the premiere team, and becomes the fourth rower in Cougar history to be named a CRCA All-American. In December, she was honored in her native Canada as half of the nation's Best Female Sweep Crew of the Year.
In addition to her two selections to the CRCA All-America second team, Thomas collected first team all Pac-10 honors in 2005 and 2006. She also secured a spot on the Pac-10 second team in 2004.
WSU finished fourth as a team at the national championships in West Windsor, N.J. in May, the highest finish by a Cougar women's program in school history.
