Women Of Troy Announce 2006 Schedule

LOS ANGELES -- The USC women's volleyball program has announced its 2006 schedule which includes its first-ever match in the brand-new Galen Center on Sept. 14 against Pepperdine. Along with the always competitive Pac-10 Conference slate, USC will play five nonconference opponents that played in the 2005 NCAA Tournament, including Final Four participant Tennessee.

The Women of Troy will open at the Century Tel/Classic Honda Tournament in San Marcos, Texas (Aug. 25-26), featuring North Texas, UTPA and Texas State. The following week, USC hosts the LMU/USC Tournament (Sept. 1-3) with five matches at the Lyon Center. On Sept. 1, North Carolina and Utah will play at 5 p.m., followed by USC-Fresno State at 7 p.m. USC hosts Utah on Saturday (Sept. 2) at 2 p.m. before the final two matches on Sunday with Utah-Fresno State at 2 p.m. and USC against Tennessee at 4 p.m.

USC will play another tournament where the Women of Troy play three matches in two days with an appearance at the Gamecock Invitational (Sept. 8-9) in Columbia, S.C. against Florida State, South Carolina and St. John's. The Women of Troy closes out nonconference play against Pepperdine and a home match on Friday (Sept. 15) against Purdue at 7 p.m.

Washington, the defending national champions, will make its 2006 appearance at the Galen Center on Friday (Sept. 29) in a 7 p.m. match. Other spotlight home matches include Stanford on Thursday (Oct. 12) at 6 p.m. and UCLA on Friday (Oct. 20) at 7 p.m. The Women of Troy travel to UCLA's Pauley Pavilion on Friday (Nov. 17) at 7 p.m.

USC returns eight letterwinners from last year's squad that finished 17-11 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 2006 squad will include newcomers Taylor Carico, one of the nation's top incoming freshman setters, 6-3 junior transfer middle blocker Bethany Johanson from UC Santa Barbara and two members of last year's junior college national championship squad at the College of Southern Idaho, 6-4 outside hitter JoAnna Kaczor and 6-1 middle blocker Marta Siemiatkowska.
