Willingham To Throw First Pitch At Mariner's Game
June 15, 2006
SEATTLE -- Despite his two-sport background in football and baseball, it might be a good idea for Tyrone Willingham to get some pointers from his rising senior quarterback and recent Major League Baseball draftee Isaiah Stanback.
The second-year University of Washington head football coach is scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch Friday night at Safeco Field prior to the Seattle Mariners' interleague game against the San Francisco Giants. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
Season tickets to Husky football are on sale now by calling 206/543-2200 or by clicking here.
The Mariners are honoring Willingham for his commitment to excellence in developing his players both on and off the field. The game will have added meaning for the former Bay Area resident since Seattle's opponent is San Francisco.
A walk-on in both football and basketball at Michigan State, Willingham earned three letters in each sport. He played centerfield for the Spartans and was a second-team all-Big Ten Conference selection and league Medal of Honor winner before graduating in 1977.
The Huskies open the upcoming season on Sept. 2 with a home game against San Jose State. Season tickets are currently on sale by calling the UW Athletic Ticket Office at 206/543-2200 or by clicking here.
