Kalyn Keller, Mark Warkentin Named To U.S. Open Water National Teams
June 16, 2006
USC All-American Kalyn Keller and former Trojan All-American Mark Warkentin were both named to the U.S. 2006-07 Open Water national teams that will compete at the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships and the 2007 World Championships.
These international competitions will be the first opportunity for U.S. Open Water national teams to compete with an Olympic Games as the focus. The 10K open water races were added in October 2005 to the 2008 Olympic program in Beijing.
The teams were selected based on results from the Open Water World Championships in June and the 800m and 1500m freestyles at Spring Championships in March.
Keller is the lone Olympian from 2004 to make the open water team. An NCAA champion and Olympic finalist, she recently finished second at the 2006 U.S. Open Water National Championships.
Warkentin, a four-time All-American at USC who graduated in 2002, won the 25K at the national championships. He won four World University Games gold medals in 1999.
