Men's Soccer Announces 2006 Schedule

SEATTLE - Washington men's soccer announced its 2006 schedule, Friday, a slate that includes the 18th annual Husky Fever Classic at Husky Soccer Field and matches against four squads that competed in last year's NCAA Tournament.
The Huskies will open the season on their home pitch, hosting UC Davis Friday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. Following the opener, UW will play four-straight road matches traveling to the Nike Invitational in Portland, Ore., and the Wisconsin, Invitational in Madison, Wisc. At Portland, UW will square off with Air Force (Sept. 1) and Vermont (Sept. 3), while at Wisconsin the Huskies will face the host Badgers (Sept. 8) and 2005 NCAA Tourney team Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Sept. 10).
Tournament action continues for UW when it returns home to host the Husky Fever Classic, Sept. 15 and 17. Joining the Huskies in the four-team field will be Marshall, Northern Illinois and Portland. UW will open the tournament with a match versus Northern Illinois, Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m., a contest preceded by Portland taking on Marshall at 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 17, Portland will face NIU at 11 a.m. followed by UW vs. Marshall at 1:30 p.m.
Washington remains at home to open Pac-10 play with Oregon State, Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. Always a formidable conference slate, the Huskies will be tested with a trip to Southern California to face 2005 NCAA Tourney teams UCLA (Sept. 29) and San Diego State (Oct. 1).
The first half of the conference schedule wraps up when UW hosts Stanford, Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. and 2005 NCAA quarterfinalist California, Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. The Huskies then turn around and travel to the Bay Area to take on these same two sides the following weekend.
UW hosts San Diego State (Oct. 20, 7 p.m.) and UCLA (Oct. 22, 2:30 p.m.) before taking a break from conference play to face its Northwest rivals. The Huskies host Gonzaga, Friday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. and then head south to face Portland, Sunday, Oct. 29, at 2:30 p.m. Washington plays OSU in the regular season finale, Friday, Nov. 3, in Corvallis, Ore.
The Huskies finished the 2005 season with a 10-7-2 overall record and placed 5th in the Pac-10 standings with a 3-5-2 mark. The 2006 squad returns 11 letterwinners including first-team All-Pac-10 defender Ty Harden and All-Pac-10 forwards Kevin Forrest and Ely Allen.
