Cougars to Compete at USA Track & Field Championships

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Four current Cougars and four alumni will compete at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 21-25, at the Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in downtown Indianapolis.

Current Cougars scheduled to compete include hurdlers John Cassleman and Robert Williams, heptathlete Diana Pickler and pole vaulter Tamara Diles.

Williams is a freshman from Riverside, Calif., will actually race in the 2006 Finishline USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships being contested concurrently with the USATF Championships in Indianapolis. William's 110m hurdles time of 14.28 seconds is seeded 17th and the first round prelim race is set for Thursday at 10:20 a.m. ET.

Cassleman, a junior from Pullman, is the 11th seed in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 49.53 and will run in the first round Thursday at 4:45 p.m. ET. Cassleman finished fifth at the 2006 NCAA Championships with a time of 49.55.

Pickler, a junior from Sachse, Texas, is the sixth seed in the women's heptathlon with 5,757 points which she accumulated in her third-place finish at the 2006 NCAA Championships. The heptathlon begins Friday morning.

Diles, a senior from Bellevue, Wash., is the 18th seed in the women's pole vault with a height of 13-feet, 11 1/4 inches (4.25m), which is the WSU school outdoor record. Diles competes Sunday at 1:45 p.m. ET.

Former Cougar All-Americans competing at this meet include current WSU assistant coach Ellannee Richardson, ranked 13th in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 57.45; Bernard Lagat, the top seed in both the men's 1500m (3:29.30) and 5000m (12:59.29); Ian Waltz, the top seed in the men's discus (226-1/68.91m); Dominique Arnold, second seed in the men's 110m hurdles (13.01); and Eric Dudley, the 19th seed in the men's 400m hurdles (50.39).

The event serves as the selection meet for the IAAF World Cup of Athletics, which will take place later this summer. The 2006 USA Outdoor Junior Championships take place concurrently with the Outdoor Championships, as the selection meet for the 2006 World Junior Championships in Beijing, China.

The 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Championships will be televised live on ESPN2 from 3-5 p.m. PT Saturday, June 24, and from 2-4 p.m. PT Sunday, June 25.
