Today's Daily Diary is by Alex Fisher who recalls her day on June 20.

'When the alarm sounded at 8:00 this morning at the hotel in Ravenna, Italy, I jumped out of bed and immediately knew today was going to be amazing. For one, today was our first day off after a streak of playing four intense matches in a row. And, on top of that, we were scheduled to visit one of the most beautiful places in the world-Venice, Italy.

We got out of bed, ate some breakfast, and hopped on the bus for the quick two-hour bus ride into Venice. We arrived in Venice around 11 a.m. and hopped on a boat that took us to the sinking island. Once on land, we took a great team pic and split up into groups to go our separate ways and explore the city.

What we found was even more amazing than we had expected. The city was complete with beautiful bridges, romantic gondolas floating through the alleyways, great shopping, and photo-worthy buildings around every corner. We were all in awe of the city and only regreted that we did not get to spend more time there.'

Editors Notes:
(June 20) - It has reached that time of the trip; what day and date is it? - Not sure if it is Monday, June 19, or Tuesday, June 20 - The consensus among the group is that it is Tuesday, June 20 - As the team departs Venice, Italy, for the five-hour bus ride to Maribor, Slovenia, the Italian language barrier has eased a bit - If you are ever in Italy, here are a couple phrases that will come in handy - Parli Inglese? (Do you speak English?); Grazie (Thank you); Questo pasto e delizioso (this meal is delicious); Buongiorno/Buona notta (Good morning/Good night); and finally ... Prendete le carte di credito? (Do you take credit cards?) - It is indeed a small world - The UCLA women's volleyball team and the University of Minnesota are also traveling in the area, and the Cardinal and Bruins exchanged buses in Venice - Minnesota's volleyball team is staying at the same hotel as Stanford in Slovenia - The Stanford team left Venice, Italy, around 5 p.m. on Tuesday and traveled across the country of Slovenia - The team bus reached the Italy-Slovenia border exactly at 7:30 p.m. - Maribor, the next destination for the Cardinal, is in the northeastern part of Slovenia - Stanford, after a day of sightseeing, will play the Croatian Junior National team on Wednesday night.

Arrivederci
