Two Sun Devils Named To USA Softball Roster

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University softball student-athletes Katie Burkhart and Kaitlin Cochran have been named to USA Softball's World University Games roster, USA Softball announced. The 17-person team will compete in Taiwan in July. The United States won the inaugural World University Games in 2004.
Burkhart and Cochran were two of over 30 participants in the selection camp, and were chosen for the team by USA Head Coach Carol Hutchins. Team USA features eight players from the Pacific-10 Conference.
Burkhart just completed a stellar sophomore season that saw her lead the Sun Devils to a Women's College World Series berth with a 30-8 record and a 1.15 ERA. The San Luis Obispo, Calif. product set a school record with 420 strikeouts this season on her way to being named First-Team All-Pac-10.
Cochran (Yorba Linda, Calif.), had a fantastic freshman season in Tempe, earning First- Team All-American honors, First-Team All-Pac-10 honors and was named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. She set school records with 17 home runs and 61 RBI and finished the year with a .471 batting average.
Team USA will play a scrimmage with the USA Softball National Team in Irvine, Calif. before departing for the eight-day tournament in Tainan City, Taiwan. Upon their return to the United States, the squad will play a four-game series with the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch League.
