Young 9th in Javelin at USA Jr. Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - California freshman Ryan Young took ninth place with a throw of 57.39 meters (188-03) on Wednesday, the first day of competition, at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships. The meet runs through Sunday, June 25, at the IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis.
Young, who competed in the javelin in the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 8, reached his top mark in Indianapolis with his second throw of the event. North Carolina freshman Adam Montague won the javelin title with a throw of 67.88 meters (222-08).
On Thursday, Cal freshmen teammates Jordan Paul and Jake Hanson will both compete in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles and Bears freshman Evelyn Smith will compete in the women's 400-meter hurdles at the junior championships. Also on Thursday, now former Bear Antonette Carter will compete in the 100-meter dash preliminaries at the USA Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis. The senior meet starts today and also ends on Sunday.
