Fink and Nelson Named to USTA Summer Collegiate Team
June 27, 2006
The third-ranked USC women's tennis team will have two representatives on the USTA Summer Collegiate Team, which is designed to give the top collegiate players exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit during the summer. ITA National Rookie of the Year Amanda Fink and NCAA singles runner-up Lindsey Nelson have been named members of the six-player women's squad, marking both Trojans' first appearance on the elite team.
The USTA Summer Collegiate Team is comprised of six male and six female players who will compete in a team-oriented environment at USTA Pro Circuit events primarily during July. The top four American men and women as ranked in the final Fila national singles rankings are eligible as automatic selections, and two more male and female players are selected as wild card by the USTA Player Development staff.
Amanda Fink (Calabasas, Calif./Calabasas HS) was the fourth ranked American player, receiving an automatic selection, and Nelson received a wild card selection to the team. Fink finished her first season at USC as the nation's No. 8 overall player, having reached the Pac-10 Singles final as a freshman and finished the year with a 40-12 singles record. Lindsey Nelson (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park HS) is ranked No. 9 in the nation and had a stellar finish to her sophomore season, powering her way to the NCAA Singles final and being named a finalist for the Honda Award. She finished 2006 with a 25-9 singles record.
