Three Cardinal Players Chosen for the 2006 USTA Summer Collegiate Team

White Plains, N.Y. - The USTA announced that twelve of the nation's top men's and women's collegiate tennis players have been named to the 2006 USTA Summer Collegiate Team, administered by the USTA and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Stanford's Matt Bruch, Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey were all selected to the 2006 USTA Summer Collegiate Team.

The USTA Summer Collegiate Team is an elite training program for the top American collegiate tennis players that began in 1996 and is funded by the USTA. It is designed to provide players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months. This year's team will be playing in USTA Pro Circuit events primarily during the month of July.

The top four American players from the season-ending Fila national singles rankings are eligible for automatic selections, while two players for each team are wild card selections by the USTA Player Development staff. Stanford's Liu will be participating in this program for the fourth straight year.

Liu and Yelsey helped Stanford to its third straight NCAA title last month. Liu won back-to-back NCAA singles titles in 2003 and 2004, while Yelsey finished at No. 1 in the Fila national doubles rankings this season.

Bruch was named ITA National Rookie of the Year and helped Stanford advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Notable players who have been named to the USTA Summer Collegiate Team in the past include: world No. 7 James Blake, Bob and Mike Bryan, the No. 1 doubles team in the world, Jill Craybas, Amer Delic, Justin Gimelstob, Paul Goldstein, Laura Granville, Jeff Morrison, Lilia Osterloh, Bobby Reynolds,Jeff Morrison and Jesse Witten.
