Arizona State Selected to Play in Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship

Arizona State has been invited to play at the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship at Colonial Country Club the Golf Coaches Association of America announced. Invitation to the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship is based on 2006 Division I national championships finish. The event - which will be held Oct. 29-31 - features 16 teams that finished in the top 20 at nationals.
The ASU men's golf team is joined by national champion Oklahoma State, as well as Arizona, Auburn, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Lamar, Minnesota, NC State, Texas A&M, UCLA, UNLV and Washington.
Lemke earned his second All-America honor after notching honorable mention in 2005. He posted a 71.68 stroke average this year in 13 events including five top-10 finishes and four top-five finishes. He has a 72.70 stroke average 36 career events through three seasons. He was 18-under par in his final five tournaments.
Alvarado Holley had a 72.50 stroke average, the fifth-best freshman season in ASU history. He posted one top-10 finish as he tied for seventh at the Southern Highlands Championship in Las Vegas (March 10-12). He played in 10 tournaments on the year, fourth-most on the team.
'Colonial Country Club is privileged to be the host site for the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship this fall,' said Colonial Country Club President Bill E. Bowers. 'The matching of sixteen of the top college golf teams in the country with Colonial's golfing legacy and its history of being the host club for the longest running professional tournament in golf played at the same site should produce an exciting and challenging event. We are especially pleased to host this event because of the amateur status of the players.'
