Bixler Wins WSGA Men's Amateur Championship

June 30, 2006

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- After earning runner-up honors last year, Washington junior men's golfer Zach Bixler won the 2006 Washington State Men's Amateur Championship held at McCormick Woods Golf Course in Port Orchard.

Bixler, who shot a 73 in Friday's final round, led wire-wire throughout the tournament and was the only player to finish under par for the championship, 68-73-71-73-285. Bixler edged Husky teammate and 2005 WSGA Men's Amatuer champ Alex Prugh who finished in a three-way tie for runner-up with Jimmy Hayes of Redmond and Joseph Prince of Bellevue. The trio finished at even par for the championship.

'I have been working really hard on my putting stroke in the last couple of months and it paid off for me this week,' Bixler said.
