Willis' Sparks Win First Matchup Against Blue's Mystics
July 2, 2006
In their first professional head-to-head meeting, Lisa Willis came out on the winning end against former UCLA teammate Nikki Blue, with Willis' Los Angeles Sparks winning an 80-75 decision against Blue's Washington Mystics Saturday night at the Staples Center.
Willis scored seven points in 17 minutes of play, including a three-pointer. She also had two rebounds, one assist and one steal just one day after totaling 10 points in a season-high 21 minutes against Phoenix. Blue's playing time was limited due to foul trouble, and she scored one point with two assists and a steal in nine minutes of play. The two Bruins got to play on the court at the same time during the second half but neither were assigned to guard the other.
Amongst a large UCLA-based contingent on hand to see Willis and Blue play against each other were Bruin head coach Kathy Olivier plus several UCLA teammates, support staff and Center Court Club members.
The two teams will meet one more time on August 1 at Washington.
