July 17, 2006
VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Washington men's golfer Erik Olson was defeated by Danny Green of Jackson, Tenn., 9 and 7 in the 36-hole final match at the 105th PNGA Men's Amateur Championship played at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, B.C., July 15.
Olson's runner-up finish came to Green, a 2001 U.S. Walker Cup Team member and 1999 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion. After a strong tournament run to that point, Olson fell behind Green after the first 18 holes of the final round, shooting one-over 71 while Green shot six-under 64. In the second half of the match, Green went seven up after making a birdie on the 20th hole. Olson looked like he might make a comeback when he made a birdie on the 22nd hole, but Green went on to win holes 25, 27 and 29 to close the match early.
