Football Reunion Aug. 11-13
July 25, 2006
by Scott Parrish -- - It's getting to be that time of year again on the Palouse, the weather keeps getting hotter, the wheat is turning to a dark gold and the WSU football team is gearing up for another season of Cougar Football.
But, before we get to deep into the Summer, don't forget about the Cougar Football Preseason Reunion, Past Meets Present. A weekend which allows Cougar football alumni the chance to get to know players from many different generations, as well as meeting the current Cougs to share something they've all been a part of.
'It was great fun to interact with former Cougs from different eras and teams,' said Rich Sheron, former tight end from 1965. 'The one thing we all had in common was a deep love for WSU.'
The weekend offers a variety of events for the football alums. Friday night, past players will have the chance to watch the current team practice at 7:30. Following the practice is the Gray 'W' Social, which will take place at the newly re-done Mike's Bar, in the middle of Greek row.
Saturday morning, the current team will have its position meetings and walk through practice and alumni are welcome to attend. At 11 a.m. there will be a tour of the WSU facilities followed closely by a talk from head coach Bill Doba and a viewing of the 'Legends of the Palouse,' DVD. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. in the tents on Rogers Field and the scrimmage will get underway at 2:30 p.m.
After the scrimmage, the Cougar Pride Dinner will take place at Regents hall, where former Cougars will be able to eat and share stories with the current team.
On Sunday morning at 9:30, the Reunion Golf Tournament will begin. The tournament is nine holes and prizes will be givin out at the end.
The Cougar Football Preseason Reunion is a great chance for the former Cougar football players the chance to meet the current team, but just as importantly, it also allows the current student-athletes a chance to meet those who went through the same thing as they did.
'It's fun to listen to stories from former Cougar players,' said junior quarterback, Alex Brink. 'They offer the current players a good perspective on life after being a Cougar football player.'
With the success from last year's reunion, the Gray 'W' Varsity Club hopes to see you out at the Cougar Football Preseason Reunion to enjoy the company of fellow Cougs, shares some memories and to show what it means to be a Cougar football player.
'It really holds a special place in all past player's hearts to have played at WSU,' said Darren Talley, WSU running back from 78-83. 'And to have that continued connection with WSU football.'
