July 31, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash - Fans wishing to get their first look at this season's Washington State University baseball team are invited to join players, coaches and alumni during the Cougar Baseball Alumni Weekend, Sept. 8-10.

Weekend highlights include the Crimson vs. Gray scrimmage, the Cougar Alumni Game, the WSU-Idaho football game and the Cougar Baseball Golf Tournament at the University of Idaho Golf Course.

'Alumni weekend is always a highlight to the fall season,' said WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut, who enters his third season leading the Cougars. 'It's a perfect time to renew friendships with former players and families, enjoy a great college football weekend in Pullman, and with the auction and golf tournament, benefit the Cougar baseball program.'

The weekend begins Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. with a Crimson & Gray scrimmage, followed by a barbeque with alumni, family and friends at Bailey-Brayton Field.

The Cougar Alumni Game takes place Saturday, Sept. 9, at 9 a.m. as the Cougar alumni face the 2007 Cougar Baseball team, otherwise known as the 'rookies.' Following the game the Alumni Banquet/Auction takes place from 1- 3 p.m. This is a chance to meet the 2007 Cougar Baseball team and participate in live and silent auctions with proceeds benefiting Cougar baseball.

At 4 p.m., the venue shifts to Martin Stadium as the WSU football team opens its 2006 home schedule against Idaho.

The weekend concludes Sunday morning at the University of Idaho golf course with a 9 a.m. shot-gun start for the Cougar Baseball Golf Tournament.

WSU finished this past year with a 36-23 record, a 15-win improvement over the 2005 season which ties a record for best improvement in school history.
