Blong, Clark, Samaniego And Schofield Head to U.S. Diving Nationals
July 31, 2006
'I am very proud of what our team has accomplished so far this spring/summer season,' said Dive coach Tom Stebbins. 'I am really looking forward to seeing my team compete amongst the best in the country. The qualifying portion of what we have done is just phase one of our plan for this summer. So far we are right on target. We are just looking for our team to compete at the best of their ability, and let the places fall where they may. The planning and preparation phases of our work are done. The execution phase is all that's left, and I feel very good about what is about to happen.'
Blong, Clark and Samaniego qualified for the national meet last weekend in Pasadena after impressive performances at the Zone D Championships where the Bruins captured the women's team title.
Blong and Clark qualified on three-meter synchro diving with their second-place finish last weekend. Blong will also compete on one-meter after finishing second at the Zone meet.
Samaniego will represent UCLA on both the 1M and 3M boards after placing third on both boards at the Zone Championships.
Schofield pre-qualified for the national meet after placing seventh on the platform at the U.S. Diving Open back in April.
