July 31, 2006
BERKELEY, Calif. - California rising sophomore Shannon Yocum was selected a National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar for the 2005-06 season. Yocum is the fourth Golden Bear to receive the prestigious award and the first since Anne Walker became a three-time honoree from 1999-02.
To be selected to the All-American Scholar Team, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and must have competed in a least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II and III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Yocum, who hails from Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., competed in 11 of 12 competitions for the Bears as a rookie, posting a 79.0 scoring average. Her best finish was a tie for 24th at the Cal Guadalajara Invitational in March.
Earlier this month, Yocum was the runner-up at the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) Women's Amateur Championship.
