Jensen Earns 3rd In 400m Free At U.S. Nationals

USC senior Larsen Jensen was third in the 400m free while former Trojans Erik Vendt and Kaitlin Sandeno also posted thirds on the opening night of the 2006 U.S. Summer National Championships on Tuesday (August 1) at the William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif.
Jensen was third in the 400m free in 3:48.01, behind American record holder and former Trojan Klete Keller's 3:44.27 and Peter Vanderkaay's 3:46.81. All three were 2004 U.S. Olympic teammates and their times were the three fastest in the world this year.
Vendt, the silver medalist in the 400m IM at the last two Olympics who has recently returned to training after a brief retirement, took third in the event on Tuesday in 4:12.69. World record holder Michael Phelps won in 4:10.16 while Ryan Lochte was second (4:11.53). All three were also 2004 U.S. Olympians.
Sandeno, another two-time Olympian, took her third in the 200m IM in 2:13.86. Katie Hoff won the race in 2:10.05.
The meet runs through Saturday. Wednesday's action continues with prelims and finals of the men's and women's 100m backstroke, the men's and women's 200m freestyle, the men's 200m butterfly and the women's 400m free relay.
