Bixler Leads UW Contingent Currently Playing In Summer Tournaments

SAN FRANCISCO -- Washington golfer Zach Bixler leads a Husky trio currently competing in summer amateur tournaments, holding on to a tie for 19th after two rounds at the 40th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship in San Francisco, Wednesday.
Bixler moved up in the field after shooting two-over par 72 in the second round. He will begin Thursday's third round six strokes behind the leaders (74-72-146). Fellow teammate Alex Prugh struggled for the second day in a row, shooting seven-over 77. He sits in a tie for 73rd, 14-over 155 overall (78-77-155).
The 72-hole stroke-play event continues Thursday and Friday. Prugh will tee off in the third round Thursday at 9:00 a.m. while Bixler will tee off at 9:20 a.m.
Fellow Husky Erik Olson began play at the 104th Western Amateur Golf Championship at the Point O'Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich., Wednesday. Olson shot five-over 75 in the first round, finishing 10 strokes behind the leader who shot four-under 66.
The Western Amateur continues through Sunday, with another 18 holes to be played Thursday followed by a cut of the 156-man field to the low 50 scores and ties. Players that make the cut will be 36 holes on Friday, with the low 16 qualifying for match play on Saturday. The championship match will be held on Sunday, August 6.
