Husky Golf Teams Garner Top-30 Rankings From Golf Digest
Aug. 2, 2006
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Golf Digest has ranked the Washington men's program No. 26 and the women's program No. 29 in its preseason 'Golf First Ranking' for its September issue, scheduled to hit newsstands on Aug. 8.
The rankings are apart of the publication's second annual College Golf Guide and include every Division I, Division II and Division III school in the country. Five criteria form the basis of the rankings: a college golf team's adjusted scoring average, player growth while on the team, academics, climate and coaches/facilities.
The Husky men's golf team is coming off a ninth place finish at last year's NCAA Championships, its third straight Top-10 national finish. UW had three All-Americans on a team that placed second at the Pac-10 Championship in 2005-06.
The Husky women matched their best-ever NCAA Championship finish this past season placing sixth, while senior All-American Paige Mackenzie set a new UW record with an eighth-place individual finish. MacKenzie also won the 2006 Pac-10 individual title.
Topping the men's list was UCLA, followed by No. 2 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Pepperdine, No. 4 Rollins (Division II) and No. 5 Florida. The top five women's teams tabbed were No. 1 Duke, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Rollins (Division II), No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 5 Virginia.
