Aug. 7, 2006

Irvine, Calif. - Former Stanford swimmer Tara Kirk (2000-04) led the performances of 22 current, former and future Stanford swimmers in the long-course meters 2006 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships held August 1-5. Kirk was the only Stanford affiliate to earn a victory in the meet, capturing the 200 breast (2:28.46) after having finished tied for second in the 100 breast (1:07.65) earlier in the five-day event at the William Woollett Aquatics Center.

Kristen Caverly (2002-06) had the next highest finish by a Stanford affiliate by placing third in the 200 breast (2:29.39) while swimming for the Aquazot Swim Club. Caverly also was 10th in the 200 IM (2:16.54), while taking ninth in the 200 back prelims (2:16.24) and 12th in the prelims of the 400 IM (4:49.90) but not swimming in the finals of either event.
