Cal Ranked No. 17 in Preseason CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Poll

BERKELEY, Calif. - The California volleyball team is ranked No. 17 in the CSTV/AVCA Division I Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll released Tuesday.
Nebraska holds the top spot, followed by Penn State, Washington, Stanford and Florida. UCLA (10), USC (14) and Arizona (18) join Cal, Washington and Stanford as Pac-10 teams with preseason rankings.
Cal, which was tabbed No. 20 in the final poll last season, returns five starters from the 2005 squad (19-11, 10-8 in the Pac-10) that advanced to the NCAA second round for the fourth consecutive year, including junior outside hitter Angie Pressey, a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection. Cal also features senior setter Samantha Carter and senior libero Jillian Davis, both honorable mention All-Pac-10 picks last season, and sophomore Morgan Beck, a member of the 2005 Pac-10 All-Freshman Team.
The Bears will open their 2006 season hosting the Cal Molten Classic (Cal, UC Davis, Baylor and Montana) Aug. 25-26 at Haas Pavilion. Cal then travels to the Florida International Invitational (Cal, Xavier, Oral Roberts, Florida International) Sept. 1-2 in Miami, Fla., before hosting the Golden Bear Invitational (Cal, Pepperdine, American University, Colorado State) Sept 8-9 at Haas Pavilion.
