Game On! Women Of Troy Begin 2006 Fall Practice
Aug. 8, 2006
LOS ANGELES -- The USC women's volleyball team officially opened the 2006 season with its first practice Tuesday morning. The Women of Troy are coming off a 17-11 season where USC finished fourth in the Pac-10 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
'Anytime you get in the gym on the first day, you try to establish a baseline,' said USC women's volleyball assistant coach Todd Dagenais. 'It's a slower tempo than a normal practice will be so we can get in all the detail-oriented information that (head coach) Mick (Haley) prefers to use later when we speed up the tempo.'
Eight letterwinners and three starters, along with senior All-America libero Debora Seilhamer, join six newcomers as the Women of Troy look to mesh quickly in this year's 'new look' squad.
'The seniors have been great about taking the newcomers aside to explain the small details of how we practice,' said Dagenais. 'Overall, you can tell that we have a cohesive group this season.'
USC opens the 2006 season on Aug. 25-26 at the Century Tel/Classic Honda Tournament in San Marcos, Texas, where the Women of Troy will face North Texas, UTPA and Texas State.
