Former Devil Zechry Zinicola Promoted To AA Harrisburg

TEMPE, Ariz. - Former Sun Devil closer Zechry Zinicola has been promoted to AA Harrisburg by the Washington Nationals organization. Zinicola was a sixth round pick of the Nationals in the 2006 MLB Draft, following his junior season at ASU.
Zinicola (San Bernardino, Calif.) began his pro baseball career with the Vermont Lake Monsters of the Class A Short Season New York Penn League. He had four saves in eight games, striking out ten and walking only one before being promoted to the Potomac Nationals of the Class A Advanced Carolina League. Zinicola was 3-0 with three saves for Potomac before his promotion to Harrisburg. In 17 total appearances, he has allowed three earned runs in 22.2 innings pitched (1.22 ERA). He has struck out 23 batters while walking only four, and has already totaled seven saves.
Zinicola played three seasons for the Sun Devils, finishing with 18 career saves, good for third on ASU's all-time list. He went 10-9 with a 4.34 ERA in his career, striking out 157 batters as both a starter and a closer. Zinicola also finished his collegiate career with a .276 career batting average, belting five home runs and driving in 41 RBI in limited at-bats.
