Three Cougars Named ITA Tennis Scholars

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has named Washington State tennis players Ekaterina Burduli, Tessa Hollyn Taub and Marjolein van de Ven ITA Scholar Athletes for the 2005-06 season, it was announced recently.
Burduli, a Tel Aviv, Israel native, ended the 2006 season ranked 66th nationally and finished 12th in the Northwest Region. Burduli compiled 25 wins during the 2006 campaign, placing her third on WSU's single season victory list. She capped her season by reaching the NCAA Individual Singles Championship, becoming only the second Cougar to reach the individual tournament.
Hollyn Taub, a junior from Palo Alto, Calif., finished the season with a 4-6 record, including a 3-1 record at the season-opening Cougar Classic.
van de Ven, the Delft, Netherlands native, finished her junior season with 24 wins, the fifth-most single-season wins in school history. She compiled a team-best 3.68 grade point average in her first season as a Cougar and teamed with Burduli to post a 10-2 doubles record. The pair ended the year ranked 13th in the Northwest region.
The Cougars completed the 2006 season with a 14-12 record.
