Aug. 14, 2006

BERKELEY - Former Cal men's swimmer and current volunteer assistant coach Bart Kizierowski swam the world's fastest time in the 50 freestyle with his time of 21.88, at the European Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

A native of Poland, Kizierowski still swims competitively for his native country. Two years ago at his third Olympics Games, Kizierowski, carried the flag of Poland.

A 2000 graduate of Cal, Kizierowski won two NCAA titles and seven Pac-10 titles during his Golden Bear career.

Last season Kizierowski coached the Golden Bear distance group. His athletes broke a 20-year old school record in the 800 free relay and his athlete, Dominik Miechtry, finished third in the 200 freestyle at the 2006 NCAA Championships.
