Two Stanford Swimmers Named To USA Team

Colorado Springs, Co - Fifty-six of the nation's top swimmers, including Stanford's Ben Wildman-Torbiner and Hongzhe Sun, will head to Victoria, British Columbia, to compete in the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, Aug. 17-21.

The USA team will also include former Stanford All-Americans Randall Bal and Peter Marshall.

The United States team, which includes 25 Olympians, was selected from the 2006 USA Swimming National Championships which were recently held in Irvine, Ca.

Wildman-Tobriner and Sun will both be seniors in the fall at Stanford University. Wildman-Torbiner finished second in the 50 meter free and fourth in the 100 meter free at the recent U.S. Swimming National Championships. Wildman-Tobriner is scheduled to compete in the 50 meter free and as a member of the 400 meter relay team. Sun placed fourth in the 200 meter backstroke.

Bal placed second in the 100 meter backstroke while Marshall placed third. Bal and Marshall are entered in the 100 back at the Pan Pacific Championship.

NBA will broadcast the event on a tape-delayed basis on August 26 from 11-1 p.m. (pst) and Sunday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (pst). Ted Robinson, who also is Stanford's football play-by-play announcer, will provide the broadcast chores.
