Cal Ranked No. 11 in NSCAA/adidas Preseason Poll

BERKELEY - The California men's soccer team garnered a No. 11 ranking in the NSCAA/adidas preseason top 25 rankings, which came out today. Defending NCAA champion Maryland got the top spot, while defending Pac-10 champion UCLA sits one spot ahead of the Golden Bears at No. 10.

Cal will play four teams - the Bruins, No. 7 SMU, No. 20 Santa Clara and No. 25 Washington - ranked in the NSCAA's preseason poll in 2006, including two games each against conference opponents UCLA and Washington.

Cal is also ranked No. 14 in College Soccer News' preseason top 30 poll and will play five teams - No. 2 SMU, No. 8 UCLA, No. 22 San Francisco, No. 24 San Diego State and No. 26 Santa Clara - in those rankings. Cal was also picked to finish second in the Pac-10 in a vote by all six conference coaches.

The Bears open their season at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, against San Francisco at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley as part of the Bay Area Classic.
