No. 17 Cal Volleyball to Host Scrimmage Saturday

BERKELEY, CALIF. - The No. 17-ranked 2006 University of California women's volleyball team will be hosting a free Blue-Gold scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 19 at 3 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. Head coach Rich Feller will introduce the squad and then hold a practice with scrimmage activities to allow fans a chance to get to know this year's Golden Bears.
Cal is ranked 17th in the CSTV/AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll and was tabbed fourth in the Pac-10 Preseason Coaches Poll. The Bears are coached by Feller, who is in his eighth year at Cal (117-90) and 22nd year overall (416-257). He returns five starters from the 2005 squad (19-11, 10-8 in the Pac-10) that advanced to the NCAA second round for the fourth consecutive year. Cal features junior outside hitter Angie Pressey, a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection; senior setter Samantha Carter and senior libero Jillian Davis, both honorable mention All-Pac-10 picks last season; and sophomore Morgan Beck, a member of the 2005 Pac-10 All-Freshman Team. The Bears also bring in a freshman class of Hana Cutura, Mindi Wiley, Cat Dailey, Kristen Kathan, Carly Bouza and Jill Brunswick, that is rated the third-best in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com.
Cal opens its 2006 campaign hosting the Cal Molten Classic (Cal, UC Davis, Baylor, Montana) Aug. 25-26 at Haas Pavilion. The Bears then travels to the Florida International Invitational (Cal, Xavier, Oral Roberts, Florida International), Sept. 1-2 in Miami, Fla., before hosting the Golden Bear Invitational (Cal, Pepperdine, American University, Colorado State), Sept. 8-9 at Haas Pavilion.
