Stanford's Buehler Named a Preseason All-American
Aug. 18, 2006
Stanford, Calif. - Cardinal defender Rachel Buehler has been named a 2006 Soccer Buzz Preseason All-American, as announced by the magazine yesterday. Buehler was one of 12 Division I players and three defenders selected to the elite squad, which recognizes the nation's most promising collegiate players.
Buehler becomes just the second player in Stanford history to be named a Preseason All-American, and the first since Nicole Barnhart received the honor in 2003. A U.S. Senior National Team member, Buehler will bring valuable experience to the Cardinal back line in 2006. Last year, she notched two game-winning goals and was a member of the Stanford defensive unit that posted 11 shutouts and held opponents to just 17 goals.
Three of the ten programs represented on the squad were Pac-10 schools, as Danesha Adams of UCLA and Courtney Hooker of California also earned spots on the team. The Pac-10 and the ACC were the top conferences represented, each with three players recognized.
Buehler and the Cardinal open action at the Santa Clara adidas Classic next Friday, August 25, against the University of Utah Utes. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara.
