Cal to Host Inaugural Peter Wright Tennis Tour
Aug. 22, 2006
BERKELEY - The University of California will host the new Peter Wright Tennis Tour four Sundays this fall. The event will feature juniors, college players and men's open players competing against one another in a one-day, one set singles and doubles tournament at Cal.
Head coach Peter Wright said he created the Tour to help bring different kinds of players together in a unique one day/one set format.
'The goal is to help juniors improve while providing a competitive atmosphere for all players,' Wright said. 'The tour will also emphasize doubles play which our players sorely need. The Tour takes place over four Sundays in the fall and I fully expect this concept to quickly gain traction around the country.'
The four dates the event will take place are: Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5.
Play will begin shortly after 9 a.m., when registration closes for that day. Draws will be limited due to court availability.
